軌道平車是一種電動有軌廠內運輸車輛，解決廠內跨度之間的產品運輸。又稱過跨平車、臺車、電動平車。它具有結構簡單、使用方便、容易維護、承載能力大、污染少等優(yōu)點。廣泛用于機器制造和冶金工廠，作為車間內部配合吊車運輸重物過跨之用，根據供電方式的不同又可分為拖纜線供電軌道平車、電纜卷筒供電軌道平車、蓄電池供電軌道平車等。

電纜的一端接在地面電源上，經過電纜滑車、牽引鋼絲繩引入控制箱，再給平車上YZ電機提供電力，來拖動平車運行。但運行距離不能太長，一般不能超過50m，太長容易纏繞電纜。由于起動時流經軌道的起動電流非常大（達1000A），此時軌道末端有很大的電壓降，造成單相電容電機起動困難，故平車載重噸位為50噸，載重50噸以上時采用三相36V低壓軌道供電，起重冶金用電機。

以卷筒形式收放電纜線，380V交流電供電，電纜卷筒為磁滯耦合式，確保電纜受力均勻不易拉壞。交流380V給平車，用交流電機提供電力，電機拖動平車運行。平車運行時電纜卷筒自動將電纜卷起或放出，受卷線筒供電長度影響，一般運行距離小于200m。
